SOHOCO began as a compact studio apartment project, envisioned for a young, urban demographic seeking efficient yet characterful living. As the design evolved, the brief organically expanded into a boutique hotel, allowing the original idea of intimacy and individuality to scale into a more layered spatial experience. The vision remained rooted in creating spaces that feel warm, inviting, and effortlessly vibrant; where earthy materials and restrained detailing lend a quiet sense of class, without losing the energy of a youthful address.
First iteration of SOHOCO
The design journey was driven by multiple iterations, each refining the balance between form, function, and atmosphere. What started as a residential layout gradually transformed into a hospitality-driven plan, with circulation, shared spaces, and room experiences carefully reworked. These iterations allowed the architecture and interiors to mature together, ensuring that the building reads as cohesive rather than converted—every decision reinforcing comfort, openness, and a strong sense of identity.

Facing the road, the building asserts itself through a distinctive façade strategy. Generous balconies are screened with brick walls that act as both a visual filter and a climatic buffer, softening the building’s edge while creating depth and rhythm. Integrated landscaping and pockets of green spill onto these balconies, bringing life to the elevation and blurring the boundary between inside and outside. This interplay of brick, light, and vegetation gives SOHOCO a grounded yet contemporary presence that stands out within its urban context.

At the ground level, the arrival sequence and shared spaces are conceived as extensions of the street—open, welcoming, and layered with visual interest. The entrance, reception, and lounge areas are designed to encourage pause and interaction, using warm lighting, textured surfaces, and soft geometries to ease the transition from the city into the building. These spaces set the tone for SOHOCO as a social yet relaxed environment, where first impressions are defined by comfort, clarity, and a subtle sense of play.
Inside, the interiors continue the same narrative—young, vibrant, and inviting, yet anchored by earthy tones and tactile finishes. Curved forms, warm lighting, and carefully selected materials create a sense of flow and comfort across common areas and rooms alike. The result is a hotel that feels approachable and lived-in rather than formal, where architecture and interior design work together to craft an experience that is both visually striking and quietly refined.

Throughout the project, attention to detail becomes the unifying thread between architecture and interior design. From the articulation of brick screens and balcony edges to the choice of finishes, furniture, and lighting, each element is calibrated to support the overall mood, earthy but polished, youthful yet composed. SOHOCO ultimately emerges as a project shaped by evolution and intent, a building that carries the spirit of its original studio-apartment idea while confidently embracing its identity as a contemporary urban hotel.
